The History Graduate Program (PPHIST) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) was created in 2004, at Masters level. In 2010, it had its doctorate approved, whose first group started in mid-2011.
The objective of the PPHIST / UFPA is to reflect historiographically on the social, ethnic and cultural diversity of the Amazon in its relation with the local biodiversity. In this sense, it is a matter of training and enabling researchers and professors within this field of multiple realities. On the other hand, the objective is also to promote and create historical studies that relate the reality and historicity of the Amazon with analyzes of other Brazilian historical dynamics and of the Pan-Amazon region. As the first Doctorate Course in History of the Amazon region, PPHIST / UFPA wants to consolidate itself as a Postgraduate of reference for the other states in the region, and even for the countries that make up the Pan-Amazon.
